Steven Stanke studied conducting at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music with Alan Cumberland, the Sydney Conservatorium of Music with Mats Nilsson and Harry Spence Lyth, and the University of Melbourne with John Hopkins.
Recent conducting engagements include the Bucharest Sinfonia, The Opera and Oratorio Company of Australia, Mornington Peninsula Theatre Company, the Bands of the Royal Australian Navy and the Bands of HM Royal Marines.
He has written and transcribed extensively for wind ensemble and is published by Baton Music, Netherlands . He arranged and recorded (with the Royal Australian Navy Band) more than 30 national anthems for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games medal ceremonies and is currently preparing a Fritz Hart opera “The Fantasticks” for production in 2009.
Steven is Senior Instructor in Conducting and Harmony at the Defence Force School of Music in Melbourne and engagements in 2008 include Zelman Orchestra, Preston Orchestra and Monash Chorale.
